Teaching the Sustainable Development Goals

As an international educator, it is my responsibility to teach my students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a set of 17 goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to achieve a more sustainable future for all and provide us with a powerful blueprint for positive change.

I often have at least a couple of lessons that I dedicate to the SDGs wherever I teach. This semester, I am teaching in several different contexts, including middle school / high school students, university students and adult learners. In each of these contexts, I have taught (or plan to have) an inquiry-based and experiential session on the SDGs, where my students understand the SDGs and suggest ways to achieve them, at the local, national, and international level.

Learning about the SDGs is important because it is the first step to creating an international community of global citizens who understand the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. For this, I would like to showcase a website that I find helpful when teaching the SDGs.

The World’s Largest Lesson is an educational website for teaching the SDGs. The website's purpose is to provide educators with free lesson plans, activities, and resources that can be used to teach students about the SDGs and how they can contribute to achieving them.

The website's content includes a range of materials aimed at different age groups, from primary school to secondary school students. The resources are designed to be used in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms, after-school programs, and community organizations. The materials cover topics such as poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, renewable energy, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and partnerships for the goals. The website also features case studies and success stories from around the world, showcasing how people and organizations are working towards achieving the SDGs.

Additionally, the website provides information on how educators can get involved in the World's Largest Lesson campaign, which aims to engage millions of young people in learning about the SDGs and taking action to achieve them.

The website provides a comprehensive and accessible resource for educators who want to teach their students about the importance of sustainable development and how they can contribute to a more just and equitable world. If you are an educator who wants to teach the SDGs, go over to The World’s Largest Lesson.
